"Mycobacterium tilburgii," a newly described, uncultivated opportunistic pathogen.

چکیده
Molecular methods are increasingly used to identify pathogens that are difficult to cultivate. We report a case of disseminated infection with "Mycobacterium tilburgii," a proposed species that has never been cultivated. The case illustrates the diagnostic utility of sequence analysis of the 16S rRNA gene directly from clinical specimens.

Disseminated infection with Mycobacterium tilburgii in a male immunocompromised patient.
Mycobacterium tilburgii is a nonculturable nontuberculous mycobacterium identifiable only by molecular methods. We report a case of disseminated M. tilburgii infection illustrating the importance of 16S rRNA gene sequencing to determine the responsible mycobacterial pathogen and the difficulties in tailoring antimycobacterial treatment in the absence of a culturable organism.
متن کاملInfections due to the newly described species Mycobacterium parascrofulaceum.
We report on four cases of infection by the recently described species Mycobacterium parascrofulaceum. In two cases the mycobacterium was isolated from AIDS patients, while in the others it was responsible for pulmonary disease in elderly men. Our findings suggest that M. parascrofulaceum is an opportunistic pathogen, like many other nontuberculous mycobacterial species.
متن کاملDraft Genome Sequence of Mycobacterium vulneris DSM 45247T
We report the draft genome sequence of Mycobacterium vulneris DSM 45247(T) strain, an emerging, opportunistic pathogen of the Mycobacterium avium complex. The genome described here is composed of 6,981,439 bp (with a G+C content of 67.14%) and has 6,653 protein-coding genes and 84 predicted RNA genes.
متن کاملFirst case of Mycobacterium heckeshornense cavitary lung disease in the Latin America and Caribbean region
A case of cavitary pulmonary disease caused by Mycobacterium heckeshornense in Uruguay is described. This is the first case reported in the Latin America and Caribbean region, showing that this species is a worldwide opportunistic human pathogen.
متن کاملMycobacterium paraffinicum causing symptomatic pulmonary infection.
Mycobacterium paraffinicum has been newly recognized as a species. A case of symptomatic pulmonary infection caused by M. paraffinicum is described, and as far as we know, this is the first case of the organism as a human pathogen.
